Elections for 1843 seats of the Panchayat and Municipal Bodies in Arunachal Pradesh were held today amidst tight security. Polling started from 7 am in the morning and ended at 4pm. 1702 GP seats and 141 Zila Parishad Constituencies were held. Meanwhile, elections for 110 GP seats were not held due to single nomination rejection or there was no candidate or other reason. Seeing the pandemic situation, the State Election Commission had made provisions of separates queues for differently abled and the elderly persons in the polling stations. It may be mentioned that, out of the total 8475 seats for Gram Panchayat and Zila parishad in the twotier Panchayat system, 6500 have already been declared elected unopposed. Polling in 15 municipal wards of Itanagar Municipal Council and 8 Pasighat Municipal Council was also held. 5 of the 20 municipal wards in Itanagar were already declared elected unopposed. Governor Brig. B.D. Mishra (Retd.) and the First Lady of the State Smt Neelam Misra cast their vote at the Polling Booth in the Government Secondary School building, P-Sector, in Itanagar.
